'Strangerland' starring Nicole Kidman to open in Irish cinemas February 5th 2016

STRANGERLAND starring Academy Award® Winner Nicole Kidman

set for Irish cinemas on February 5th 2016

Wildcard Distribution is delighted to announce that it has acquired the rights to the Australian outback thriller Strangerland starring Academy Award® winning actress Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Moulin Rouge), Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love) and Hugo Weaving (The Matrix) with an Irish cinema release set for February 5th 2016. The film’s US trailer can be seen here: https://youtu.be/mMDGtaEaldM

The Irish-Australian co-production which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year sees the Parker family, new to the remote desert town of Nathgari thrown into crisis when Catherine (Kidman) and Matthew (Fiennes) discover that their two teenage kids have mysteriously disappeared just before a massive dust storm hits the town. With the town now eerily smothered in red dust and darkness, the locals join the search led by local cop David Rae (Weaving). But scorching temperatures mean the chances of survival are plummeting with each passing day and Catherine and Matthew find themselves pushed to the brink as they struggle to survive the uncertainty of their children’s fate.

Written by Irish screenwriter Michael Kinirons together with Fiona Seres, Strangerland is the directorial debut of Australian filmmaker Kim Farrant. True Detective’s Keefus Ciancia score and Irish director of photography PJ Dillon’s scenery provide the haunting atmosphere of the film.

Critics and audiences alike have been praising Nicole Kidman’s powerful performance in the film. The film was produced by Irish producers Fastnet Films (Kisses, The Other Side of Sleep, What If) and Australian producers Dragon Fly
